Part 1: The U.S. should cease investment in certain problematic areas of Communist China
9/12/2023 Rep. Krishnamoorthi: The U.S. should cease investment in certain areas of Communist China. Chinese companies in these sectors produce surveillance systems for the CCP to monitor and persecute Uyghurs in Xinjiang, manufacture PLA fighter jets for a potential invasion of Taiwan, and provide backdoored equipment to serve Chinese intelligence operations. Therefore, we should not be investing in these problematic sectors anymore.

Part 2: The US wants to attract the best and brightest from China and protect them from the CCP’s coercion
9/12/2023 Rep. Krishnamoorthi: This committee finds it extremely concerning that the CCP uses coercion to force Chinese people here to do what the CCP wants to do in order to help their businesses. The United States wants to attract the best and brightest from China, but at the same time we want to protect them from this coercion from the CCP.

Part 3: Rep. Mike Gallagher: I believe this is the most dangerous time
9/12/2023 Rep. Mike Gallagher: The window we’re in right now is what I call the window of maximum danger. The Russia-Ukraine war taught us that when a dictator threatens to do something, we should be prepared to respond. And Xi has mentioned attacking Taiwan! Given the Taiwan election in January, our big defense bills that are coming due, and our dwindling Navy strength, I believe this is the most dangerous time!
